Drawings

                  Drawings in Gerês

          Drawings of Mountains

From a group trip to Gerês where the route was guided by marks drawn by shepherds (mariolas) I developed a set of memory drawings. It was an unbelievable journey not only by the geographical characteristics but also by the contemplative, almost sacred sensations that the space unleashed. I found, during the trip, “silences of bronze”, as would say Sophia de Mello Breyner, in each of the encounters that were crossing the way. Such as the suggested I developed sequential drawings of travel memory with pen and ink. The first drawings came from the observation of the photographs taken during the course, the seconds from the first and the third from the seconds and so on. The seconds and the thirds were influenced by my experiential memories of contact with space. I present a small selection of china drawings and the pen of a considerable set of drawings made at the time.
